A Sunny morning with lots of Action.

Date:31 October 2004  Time: 0700hrs to 1100hrs.

With yesterday successful predator catch, I was there this morning again. Tide was incoming n the sea just look perfect. After setting up my tackle for surface action, I start jigging for live bait. Manage to get some rebok(bait fish) but herring was none. Suddenly, I hook onto something big on my ultra light jigging tackle n it just keep diving downward. I hang on dearly(afraid my 4lbs line break) n manage to win the battle. It was a palm size hungry grouper. After this i went back to where i park my rod n suddenly my reel has a short screech n the rod tip shake. I was ready to strike but than every thing go quiet. I wind back the line n the bait was gone. Its a missed hook. I rebait it n do another round of jigging.( to prepare for the next bait change). I was quite a distance away when my reel scream again. I make a run there n strike. The fish make a surface jump n unhook itself. It look like a wolf herring when it jump up. Too bad. Rebait again n set the drag. Then the third time came. My reel scream again n i strike. It was a queenfish when it make two acrobatic jump on sea surface n two deep dive. While on the way in, I lost the fish. Winding back line saw the hook was cut off from my leader by abrasion made from it sand paper like teeth. Well what to do, seem its not my day. Just have to try again. The sun was high up by now n it getting very hot. I was thinking of call it off when my reel alarm go off again. This time I strike n carefully direct the fish in. It was another queenfish with the usual surface jump n deep dive. When it was near, I use my loomis big game rod to flip it up. Haha, after fail three time i finally landed one. Seem that hard work do have pay off.

Last minutes I got it again.

Date: 07 November 2004    Time: 0700am to 1100am

Its already into the late morning. The current is slowing down as the water is at the ending of a down tide. My live kunning has been in the water for about 2hrs n yet no fish want to bite. Thinking of packing up n started to wind back my line. I can feel that the live bait is still there so wind back slowly hopefully to keep it alive n can pass on to other angler there who want to use it.(At this time it hard to get a live bait by jigging. Very rare this fewdays) Suddenly, I feel a tug on my rod n I strike with immediate respond. Haha Laughing A queenfish jump up on the water surface n dive down again. To be sure, I strike one more time. Yes, its hook on.Laughing I just can't believe my luck. Like this also can catch fish. It gave quite a good fight on my Loomis n Franklin big game 12ft. rod pair with a Abu sport rocket 6500 reel. But this time I have change my line to dark green 20lbs mono instead of the bright yellow colour. Seem it work. Laughing

Big Conger Eel landed

Date: 16-07-2005   Time: 7.00pm    Rod: Daiwa Long Cast Design 12ft.    Reel: Abu 6500 Sport Rocket    Line: 20lbs mono   Rig: Single hook short snood bottom feeder.   Bait: Frozen squid     Hook: S/S Long shank 4/0

The full tide was at 6pm evening. Reach this spot around 6.15pm. Tide was about to turn down. It was quite crowded but still have some space left. Quickly set up two rod with short snood bottom feeder rig as the current is not strong. Meet a regular there and understand from him that so far no fish has been landed yet despite so many angler present there today. I told him I might be the lucky one. Sure enough, around 7pm, I saw my Daiwa rod tip have a little rattle. I move forward to my rod when suddenly the tip have a big bend. I just pickup n strike. Yes, something heavy at the end of the line. It didn't struggle much except some jirk here n there. I told my regular friend it could be a big puffer or a conger eel. He suggest maybe a grouper. When it surface it was a big conger eel. As the water is still high, I ask him to hold my rod for me as I reach out for my leader. Manage to grab hold onto my rig line and I haul it up. It estimate to be about near to 3kg. My wire hook was deeply swallow n release was not possible.

When Two reels started screaming almost at the same time.

It was another Public Holiday Eve and the place was crowded. Luckily, I was there early and there was still lots unoccupied. I casted out two rods and waited. Around 8pm plus, A Thai worker there landed a Barramundi of about 4kg. Soon after, I also caught a small Marine Catfish about 0.5kg. It seemed like a productive night as other anglers also landed quite a number of small fishes like Gulamah and Beltfish. Looking at it, I was quite confident that we had a very good chance of getting something big. With this belief, I kept checking my baits the whole night to boost our chances. With true luck, around 3.30am early morning, about 50m away, a fellow angler's alarm sounded. Afraid that the fish might swim towards my side by following the current, I decided to wind in my rod. When I was about to pick up my rod, suddenly, my alarm sounded. I striked and it was a hook-up. It was not very big and I quickly brought it in so as to avoid any line entanglement. When landed, it was a whitespot long tailed stingray of about 3kg plus. A little while later, the other fish was also brought up and it was a 7kg long tailed brown stingray. What a grand finale for a productive night!

I broke my personal best on Pufferfish

Date: 030504
Came home early as there was not much work to be done. Decided to go for a short session. Tide was moving up and current was very strong. Casted out one rod far and another nearby. Baits disappeared quickly and I had to change it very often. Around 9pm plus, the rod that I had casted nearby had some rattle on its tips. I picked up and striked. Yes! Something heavy on the end of the line. I wound it in and when it surfaced, I saw that it was a big pufferfish. This fellow made another few deep dives downwards, taking out some of the line. When it surfaced again, I tried to use my rod to lift it up but failed. It was just too heavy. Left with no choice, I asked one of my friends to grab hold of my leader and bring it up. Upon weighing, it tipped the scales at slightly more than 4kg. Yes! I have a new personal best on pufferfish!

I broke it again on Pufferfish record.

Date: 21-05-04 Night to 22-05-04 Morning
It has been a long time since my regular buddies, Pau and Hwee, joined me for fishing. The whole night was uneventful as the slow tide and current was not very favourable. However, Pau was still able to land a tie-knot eel and Hwee, with a striped eel catfish. For me, it was nothing until morning 8am. I was about to change my bait when I noticed something very heavy at the end of my line. At midwater level, I felt something struggling and I knew that it was a hook-up. When surfaced, it was a big fat spotted puffer. As it was too heavy to be lifted up by my rod, I had to gaff it up. To avoid injury to it, I only gaffed at a small part of its lower jaw. When landed, it weighed a whopping 7kg. Hoho! I just broke my personal best record on puffer fish again just after two weeks! The fish was released back after photographs were taken.

Conger Eel from the Shore.

Date: 07-01-05   Time: 10.30pm to 2.00am 08-01-05

It already started the down tide when I reach there. No very windy n the sea look calm. Current flow was just nice with mainly more on the surface. Cast down two rod with one on a single hook long snood n another one on a short snood bottom feeder rig. Check my bait after ten minute n cast down again. A little while later when I look up, I saw my rod bend down. I immediately strike n feel something heavy at the end of the line. It struggle when I pump my rod n wind in. When it surface, I notice it was a big conger eel. I use my hand to grab on my leader line n bring it up as my rod was too soft to flip it up. After this nothing happen n the sky started to drizzle. I waited for another hour n pack up when the rain turn heavy.

I hit double this morning.

Date: 29-01-05        Time: 8am to 10.30am.

Went to another spot yesterday night to fish until 4am this morning. No action at all. Take some rest on my mobile home n headed down to bedok jetty at 8am. Tide was turning up n everything look perfect. Live bait was quite easy to jig at this hour. As usual two rod was set up n down goes the bottom rig with dead bait n a cable car rig with live bait on the top. Around 9.30am, One of my abu 7000 reel alarm goes off. Pick up n strike n saw a queenfish jumping off the water surface. At this moment, my other reel penn beachmaster alarm also goes off. I have to ask my friend to strike it. Samething, a queenie jump on the water surface. Wow! two hookup within a minute. Both fishes were wind in n haul up by hand as it was quite heavy to flip up with the rod. This catch show that live bait on a cable car rig is the killer as both were hookup by this rig.(See catch photo on the right)

A hungry Wolf Herring.

Date: 21-08-2004  Time: Morning 8am-11am

After a night out fishing on other spot with no result, I over slept and wake up a bit late. Reach jetty around 8am and saw there is some herring(tamban) around. Quickly, I set up my two set of tackles. One for mid water fishing and the other for bottom fishing. I baited up a live herring and clip onto my main line and slight it down to target wolf herring which is the season fish now. Not long after this, my Abu reel give out a short screech. I quickly strike but too bad it was miss hook. Rebait again and down go the live bait. A while later, my loomis rod tip shake n my reel scream. I strike hard and the fish jump up on the sea surface. Yes, it a wolf herring on the end of the line. It gave some struggle but I manage to reel in and flip it up with my rod. After this, the current has slow down as it approach the end of the low tide. Bait fish has also disappear and hard to get. I stop when the sun is getting hot as I need to rest for tonight fishing trip.

A Threadfin for my Lunar New Year Reunion Dinner.

Date: 16-01-2005        Time: 0900am to 2.00pm.

Every year about few weeks before the lunar new year, I always hope to catch something decent n nice for my reunion dinner. Most of my wish has always been fullfill. This year is no difference. I got it today. Reach the jetty around 9am n set up two rod. Tide was turning up n the water look clear n nice with alittle choppy due to the strong wind. This make me change my plan n do abit different today with one rod for bottom fishing n the other targeting surface fishes. Live bait fish was hard to get n only manage to got a few. First check on my bottom rig saw my bait still fully intact. This gave me more confident of hooking something on this bottom rig. It came when the tide is half way up around 11am plus. Saw my rod tip rattle abit n the line loosen. I strike n feel a hook up. Wind in this nice size threadfin without much effort. Very happy as it just fit in for the coming lunar new year dinner which is about three week away.(See catch photo on the right)
